Printing Diagrams

To print a Diagram:

  1. Open, or set the focus to, the desired Diagram.
  2. Optionally, for Class Diagrams, activate the Selection Tool Selection Tool, if it wasn't already.
  3. Either:
    • click somewhere in the empty space of the diagram drawing area and invoke File | Print.
      or
    • right-click on the diagram and invoke Print from the pop up menu.

or alternatively,

  1. Select the desired Diagram in the Model Explorer.
  2. Either:
    • invoke File | Print.
      or
    • right-click on the selection and invoke Print from the pop up menu.

The Print Dialog includes many options providing full control on how the diagram will be printed:

  • Printer
    This list combo box shows all the printers installed in the system. Select the desired printer from the list to which to send the print job.
    Also, checking the Print to file check box will allow to send the print job output to a file.
  • Copies
    Specify the number of copies to be printed in the copies spinner, and, if the selected printer supports it, check the Collated check box to collate the copies.
  • Pages
    Select the pages to print, either all pages, or an specific page range determined by the From/To fields.
  • Orientation
    Select the orientation of the paper, either Portrait or Landscape, and check the Rotate 180° check box to rotate the output (only if supported by the selected printer).
  • Two sided
    If the selected printer supports it, you may select to print on both sides of the paper along the Long edge (i.e., duplex) or the Short edge (i.e., tumble).
  • Paper
    Select the size and input tray of the desired paper from the list. The values shown are the ones reported by the selected printer.
  • Scaling
    • Fit to ratio: Scale the diagram to the zoom factor specified as a percentage or a predefined value ( Whole Page, Page Width, Page Height).
    • Fit to pages: Scale the diagram to fit in the number of pages specified in rows and columns.
  • Margins
    Type the desired values for the top, bottom, left and right margins in inches.
  • Alignment
    Select how to align the diagram horizontally (left, center, right) and vertically (top, center, bottom). Note that this setting makes sense only if the diagram fits in one page (vertical or horizontal), for example when using the scaling.
  • Header and Footer
    To print a header and/or footer text check the corresponding check box and type the desired text.
    The following variables are available: $DIAGRAM$ will be replaced by the diagram name; $DATE$ will be replaced by the current time; $PAGE$ will be replaced by current page; and $PAGES$ will be replaced by the total number of pages.
    Also, you may select how to align the printed text (left, center, right) and the font to be used.
  • Preview
    This panel previews how the diagram will be printed with the chosen options.
    The top and left side display the size of the selected paper, in inches or milimeters depending on the selected Units list box value.
    At the bottom of the preview pane there is a slider useful to change the page to preview.
  • Color
    Select whether to print in Monochrome or Color (only if supported by the selected printer).
